About Pontiac

The Federal riding of Pontiac contains the regional municipalities of Les Collines-de-l'Outaouais, Pontiac , and La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau as well as the former cities of Buckingham and Masson-Angers are in the riding. The riding includes Grand-Remous, Maniwaki, Messines, Bouchette, Gracefield, Kazabazua, Low, Venosta, Wakefield, Chelsea, Cantley, Val-des-Monts, Buckingham, Masson-Angers, Luskville, Quyon, Shawville, Fort Coulonge, as well as the Rapid Lake and Kitigan Zibi Indian reserves. The Ottawa River and most of the Gatineau city limits forms the southern boundary of the riding.

The economic base is distributed among the forestry, agricultural, and retail industries, as well as government services, and health and social services. The average family income is over $61,000. According to the 2001 census, about a quarter of the population indicated English as its first language while almost 72 per cent indicated French as its mother tongue. First nations accounts for nearly three per cent of the population in the riding while total immigrant population accounts for less than three per cent.
